VoxNations Schelling Grant in Support of Public Opinion Research

VoxNations Schelling Grant is an internal partial matching grant established in memory of Professor Thomas Schelling that aims to promote and facilitate impactful and methodologically sound public opinion research. The research grant is currently accepting applicants for primary data collection in Iran, Iraq, China, Afghanistan, and our network countries, and aims to assist doctoral students, scholars, and faculty with research costs of primary public opinion data collection (both quantitative and qualitative) in those countries.

Thomas Crombie Schelling (April 14, 1921 – December 13, 2016), who was awarded the 2005 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for “having enhanced our understanding of conflict and cooperation through game-theory analysis,” always emphasized that “social scientists have to either go out into the field themselves or be in very close contact with those in the field.”

As an enthusiast follower of events in the region, Professor Schelling practiced what he preached and did not hesitate to go to Iran when invited by an Iranian university in January 2008 to get an inside look at that country.

We hope that this research grant, which was launched on the fourth anniversary of Professor Schelling’s endorsement of People Analytics (VoxNations), will remove some of the hindrances social scientists face as they try to go into field or get in contact with those already there.

Please fill this form to apply for the grant or contact us if you have any further questions. The applications are due by the 15th day of each quarter (15th of March, 15th of June, 15th of September, and 15th of December). Please find the grant description document here.
